Game Introduction

Boerenbridge, also known as Chinese Pooping in Flanders, is a popular card game that involves strategic bidding and point accumulation. Here's a detailed overview of how the game is played, including how points are tracked:

Objective

The main goal of Boerenbridge is to accurately predict the number of tricks (strokes) you will win in each round and to accumulate the highest number of points by the end of the game.

Gameplay Overview

  1. Dealing Cards:

    • The game starts with each player being dealt one card in the first round. In subsequent rounds, the number of cards dealt increases by one, up to a maximum determined by the number of players. For example, with five players, the maximum number of cards dealt per player is 10.
    • After reaching the maximum, the number of cards dealt decreases back to one card per player in the final round.
  2. Bidding:

    • Players bid on the number of tricks they expect to win in the round, starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
    • The highest bidder determines the trump suit for that round.
    • The dealer, who bids last, must ensure that the total number of tricks bid by all players does not equal the total number of tricks available in the round. For example, in a round with 7 cards per player, if the total bids of the first three players sum to 5, the dealer cannot bid 2 tricks, as this would make the total equal to 7.
  3. Playing Tricks:

    • Players play one card at a time in a clockwise direction, starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
    • The player who wins the trick leads the next trick.
    • The highest card of the led suit wins the trick unless a trump card is played, in which case the highest trump card wins.

Scoring

  • Points for Tricks:

    • If a player correctly predicts the number of tricks they will win, they score 10 points plus the number of tricks won. For example, if a player bids 3 tricks and wins exactly 3 tricks, they score 13 points (10 + 3).
    • If a player overbids or underbids, they lose 10 points for each trick they are off by. For example, if a player bids 3 tricks but wins only 2, they lose 10 points (3 - 2 = 1 trick off, so -10 points).
  • Total Score:

    • The game continues through multiple rounds, with the number of cards dealt changing each round.
    • The player with the highest total score at the end of the final round, when each player is dealt one card, wins the game.

Example

  • Round 1: Each player receives 1 card.

    • Player A bids 1 trick and wins 1 trick: Score = 11 points (10 + 1).
    • Player B bids 0 tricks and wins 0 tricks: Score = 0 points.
    • Player C bids 1 trick but wins 0 tricks: Score = -10 points (1 trick off).
    • Player D bids 0 tricks but wins 1 trick: Score = -10 points (1 trick off).
  • Round 2: Each player receives 2 cards.

    • Player A bids 1 trick and wins 2 tricks: Score = 1 (previous score) + (-10) = -9 points (1 trick off).
    • Player B bids 1 trick and wins 1 trick: Score = 0 (previous score) + 11 = 11 points.
    • Player C bids 2 tricks and wins 2 tricks: Score = -10 (previous score) + 12 = 2 points.
    • Player D bids 1 trick and wins 0 tricks: Score = -10 (previous score) + (-10) = -20 points.

The game continues in this manner, with scores accumulating over rounds until the final round is completed.

Latest Version Update

  • Version 1.6 (Updated Oct 19, 2024):
    • Minor bug fixes and improvements. Players are encouraged to install or update to the newest version for an enhanced gaming experience.

By following these rules and keeping track of points accurately, players can enjoy the strategic depth and competitive nature of Boerenbridge, or Chinese Pooping.
