Engage in a thrilling game of checkers with either an advanced AI or your friend through Bluetooth or online connectivity. Turkish Draughts, also known as Dama or Daması, is a popular variant of checkers enjoyed in Turkey. This board game, much like chess or backgammon, doesn't require elaborate setups, making it an accessible and engaging way to sharpen your logic and strategic thinking. Dive into this relaxing yet challenging game to test and enhance your strategic prowess.
Turkish Draughts is played on an 8×8 board with 16 men aligned on each side, occupying the first two rows and leaving the back row empty. Men can move forward or sideways one square and capture by jumping over an opponent's piece, but they cannot move backwards. Upon reaching the back row, a man is promoted to a king, which can then move any number of squares forwards, backwards, or sideways, capturing by jumping over any piece and landing on any square beyond the captured piece.
Pieces are removed immediately after being jumped. If a jump is possible, it must be taken. When multiple jumps are available, the player must choose the sequence that captures the most pieces. There is no distinction between kings and men during capture; each counts as one piece. If multiple sequences capture the same maximum number of pieces, the player can choose which to execute.
The game concludes when a player has no legal moves left, either due to all pieces being captured or being completely blocked, resulting in a win for the opponent. A unique aspect of Turkish Draughts is that, since pieces are removed immediately after being jumped, it's possible to cross the same square more than once in a single capturing sequence. However, within a multi-capture, turning 180 degrees between two captures is not permitted.
Thank you for choosing to play the Damasi game! Enjoy the strategic challenge and the fun of this classic board game.
