The primary objective of the game is to form special card combinations known as "yaku" faster than your opponent. These yaku are created from cards collected in a point pile. Players accumulate cards in their point piles by matching cards from their hand or cards drawn from the draw pile with those laid out on the table. Once a yaku is formed, a player has the option to stop and claim the points or continue playing (referred to as "koi-koi") to build additional yaku for higher scores. It's important to note that the point values on individual cards do not directly affect the score, but they are useful in evaluating their potential in forming yaku.
