Little Bee

The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) introduces the exciting KCNK Little Bee Game, a fun and educational app for kids aged 4 to 9, designed to enhance their spelling skills. Sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), this app is perfect for young learners looking to improve their spelling in a playful and engaging way.

The KCNK Little Bee Game offers three distinct modes: Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, and Competition Mode, each with 10 levels that increase in difficulty. The app can be enjoyed offline, making it a great tool for learning on the go. Each level contains at least 15 words, ensuring comprehensive practice. The words remain consistent across all modes within the same level, allowing for varied practice methods.

In the Settings section, students can personalize their experience by entering their name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose from the three available modes.

Learning Mode 1

In this mode, children learn to spell by tapping the letters of a word from left to right. The app audibly announces each letter, helping kids to learn by listening and repeating. If a mistake is made, it can be easily corrected by tapping on the error. Students can also replay the word by tapping the little bee icon. To progress, each word must be spelled correctly, with the option to revisit any level at any time.

Learning Mode 2

Here, students are challenged to arrange jumbled letters into the correct word order. Like in Learning Mode 1, mistakes can be undone, and the word can be replayed by tapping the little bee. Correct spelling is required to advance through the words and complete each level, with the ability to redo levels as needed.

Competition Mode

This mode adds an element of challenge and excitement, as students must arrange jumbled letters, now with additional distractors, to form the correct word. Each word is timed, and the total time taken for a level is recorded. Students are given 10 random words from the level's pool and aim to complete each level as quickly as possible. The leaderboard on the main page displays the time spent on each level, encouraging friendly competition.

Players can reset the game from the Settings page and are advised to wait for a letter to finish being called before selecting the next one. Both students and parents can capture screenshots of the leaderboard to share with teachers.
