Approximately 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were stolen from a shipment truck traveling between Nintendo of America's headquarters and a Texas GameStop location.
According to Denver 7 ABC News, Colorado authorities investigating the theft discovered the crime while the driver was midway through the 1,332-mile route, with the stolen consoles valued at $1.4 million.
Law enforcement officials admitted the investigation faces challenges, as they cannot pinpoint exactly where along the lengthy transport route the theft occurred.
Investigators are determining whether this was a carefully orchestrated heist targeting the Nintendo shipment from Washington state or an opportunistic crime. The removal of multiple pallets suggests some level of coordination among the thieves.
If apprehended, suspects could face multiple felony theft charges. The truck driver claims he was unaware he was transporting Nintendo's next-generation consoles.

Authorities have established a tip line (720-874-8477) for any information regarding the theft.
The Nintendo Switch 2 recently launched worldwide, achieving 3.5 million units sold in its debut week. While Nintendo has largely avoided significant stock shortages, incidents like this theft could impact availability.
This isn't the first instance of gaming hardware theft - during the PlayStation 5 launch in 2020, UK criminals employed dangerous 'rollover' techniques to steal consoles from moving trucks at highway speeds.
Nintendo shipments have been targeted before, including a 2015 heist where thieves stole an entire truckload of Splatoon games and rare amiibo figures.
The incident marks another PR challenge for GameStop, which previously made headlines during the Switch 2 launch when store employees damaged consoles by stapling receipts to their screens.
