Bandai Namco Remasters Another Tales Game, Likely Xillia

Bandai Namco is hinting at another remaster in the Tales series, and all signs point to it being Tales of Xillia.

The tease comes from an upcoming livestream scheduled on the official Tales YouTube Channel, premiering tomorrow at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Currently, the stream preview shows a static image with the text: "The Next Tales Of Remastered is...?"

However, as noted across social media, a version of this video briefly went live on Bandai Namco Europe's page a few days ago, clearly revealing the remaster as Tales of Xillia. This makes it all but confirmed for tomorrow's early morning announcement, surprisingly scheduled hours ahead of Gamescom's Opening Night Live later that day.

Tales of Xillia originally launched in 2011 in Japan and 2013 worldwide. The story follows two protagonists, Jude and Milla, as they discover a devastating weapon and embark on a journey to prevent its misuse. We awarded it an 8/10 at release, making it a strong candidate for a remaster—especially since it has remained a PS3-exclusive, making it difficult to revisit. The game also spawned a sequel, Tales of Xillia 2, which was similarly confined to the PS3.

That said, some fans may be disappointed this isn't the Tales remaster they were hoping for. Last year, Bandai Namco launched its Tales of Remastered Program, beginning with Tales of Graces f (a Tales of Symphonia remaster had been released the previous year). At the time, we asked producer Yuki Ishikawa about the highly popular Tales of the Abyss, often considered one of the series' best entries, and whether it might receive a remaster.

“If a Tales of the Abyss remaster could happen and I could share that joy with fans, that’s something I’ll strive for,” Ishikawa stated. As for me, I’ll continue to be the sole advocate for a Zestiria remaster—but I’m patient enough to wait my turn.
