Disneyland Adds Coco, Avatar; Sulley Ride Closed

by Nora Nov 08,2025

Disney has confirmed that its new Coco-themed attraction at Disneyland will be situated in currently backstage areas near Disney California Adventure's Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. The upcoming Avatar land will occupy part of the existing Hollywood Backlot section, meaning Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026 to accommodate the new Pandora-inspired area.

The details emerged via Disney Parks Blog alongside fresh concept artwork, revealing that construction for the Coco attraction will commence backstage this autumn. First announced at D23 2024, this will mark the inaugural theme park experience based on the acclaimed Pixar film.

The Coco attraction will draw creative influences from classic Disney rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Disney's design team is implementing cutting-edge Audio-Animatronic technology to bring the skeletal characters to life in revolutionary ways.

Meanwhile, the Avatar-themed land remains in early development phases, with more specifics including construction timelines to be shared later. Inspired by both Avatar: The Way of Water and future franchise installments, this expansion will present Pandora in completely new dimensions.

While Disney World's Animal Kingdom has featured Pandora - The World of Avatar since 2017, Disneyland will soon introduce its own immersive area based on James Cameron's cinematic universe.

Though fans may mourn the closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, compensation awaits at Disney World's Hollywood Studios. The Florida resort is developing an entire Monsters, Inc. area featuring the franchise's first-ever suspended rollercoaster through the iconic door warehouse.

The announcements also included plans for a new eastern resort parking structure on the current Manchester cast member parking site. This modern transportation hub will offer 6,000 parking spaces along with dedicated shuttle zones, rideshare areas, and advanced security screening. The project features a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard leading to an enhanced arrival experience while improving overall resort traffic flow.
