As anticipated, EA is considering the Nintendo Switch 2 as a platform for its games. During a recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson responded to questions about Nintendo’s next-generation console by indicating the company intends to release several of its titles on the system.
Wilson highlighted EA’s top-grossing sports franchises, Madden and FC, as potentially gaining substantial traction on the Nintendo Switch 2, and also mentioned The Sims as another title that could perform well on the platform.
“Whenever a new console enters the market, it benefits us by expanding our reach and attracting new players,” Wilson stated. “Traditionally, our franchises have performed strongly on Nintendo systems. We expect titles such as FC and Madden to resonate well on this platform, just as they have historically.
“Considering a title like The Sims and its My Sims cozy bundle—which significantly exceeded our expectations—we found that 50% of the players had never experienced an EA game before. That opens up a substantial opportunity for us.
“While we haven’t factored anything into our forecasts at this stage, we’re confident that whenever a promising new console launches, offering access to new audiences and communities, our IP stands to gain.”
While it’s no shock that franchises like Madden and FC will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, many fans are curious about which versions to anticipate. EA previously released what it termed “legacy” versions of FIFA on the original Nintendo Switch, though recent efforts have focused on reaching feature parity for the rebranded FC series. With the Switch 2 expected to boast improved hardware, titles like FC 26 could more closely resemble their PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.
Following Nintendo’s official announcement of the Switch 2, expectations are building around its game lineup. A wide range of rumored third-party titles is said to be in development, and in a discussion with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis described the console’s purported Joy-Con mouse mode as “definitely intriguing.” French game publisher Nacon, known for titles such as Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games prepared. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to launch on the platform.
As for Nintendo’s own offerings, the company is reportedly developing a new Mario Kart installment. More details are expected to be revealed during a Nintendo Direct event in April.
