Earth vs. Mars Announced by Company of Heroes Developer Relic Entertainment

by Aurora Mar 04,2025

Relic Entertainment, the studio behind Company of Heroes, is branching out with a new turn-based strategy game: Earth vs. Mars. This smaller-scale title, launching this summer on PC (Steam), pits humanity against a Martian invasion. Players will utilize the Splice-O-Tron to create unusual hybrid creatures – think Squirrel-Cows and Human-Rhinos – to bolster Earth's defenses. The gameplay draws inspiration from the classic Nintendo DS game, Advance Wars.

According to Relic, Martians have been secretly visiting Earth, abducting humans and animals to harvest their "atomic essence." Now, a full-scale invasion is underway, and Earth's resistance needs commanders. Players will lead Earth's military against advanced Martian weaponry, including saucers, grav-tanks, and elite alien soldiers.

Earth vs. Mars features a substantial single-player campaign (30+ missions), online multiplayer (playable as either faction), a VS Mode for AI challenges, and a map editor.

Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell stated, "We're thrilled to put a Relic spin on the Advance Wars formula, blending our signature style with elements from previous titles." He further explained Relic's new strategy: "Alongside our established RTS games, we'll be developing smaller, indie-style projects to explore new genres, experiment creatively, and increase our release frequency."
