Elden Ring Maintains Strong Momentum in 2025

Elden Ring Live-Action Confirmed

While the live-action Elden Ring movie may still be some time away, the video game franchise continues to thrive with new releases. The original Elden Ring game launched in 2022 and quickly established itself as one of the most popular titles of all time, selling over 13.4 million copies within its first five weeks. By April 2025, the official Elden Ring X (formerly Twitter) account celebrated a milestone of 30 million copies sold worldwide, thanking all the Tarnished who have journeyed through the Lands Between. The game is also one of the most decorated in history, earning over 324 Game of the Year awards from various media outlets and ceremonies. Its 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, garnered a level of acclaim similar to the base game.

FromSoftware shows no signs of slowing down the franchise, entering 2025 with not one, but two new titles for players. The first is Elden Ring Nightreign, a cooperative action game spinoff set in the realm of Limveld. Players become Nightfarers, heroes tasked with halting the rise of the Nightlord. Nightreign incorporates familiar elements from the original game but redesigned for a new multiplayer co-op experience. It is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30.

The second release is Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, a complete version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four new armor sets, and a customization feature for one of three variants of Torrent the Spectral Steed. Although it is not a launch title for the new console, fans can expect Elden Ring to be available on the Switch 2 later this year.
