The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has finally introduced a feature that fans have been eagerly awaiting for over a decade: subclasses. This exciting addition allows players to customize their gameplay experience like never before. Dive in to discover how this works and what's on the horizon for ESO.

As ESO celebrates its 10th Anniversary, Zenimax Online Studios unveiled a host of new features during the ESO Direct 2025 event on April 10. The long-awaited subclass system is set to revolutionize the way players engage with the game. For years, the community has voiced their desire for the ability to switch classes without starting over. Now, with the introduction of subclasses, players can mix and match skill lines without the need to reroll their characters.

To unlock this feature, players must reach level 50. Once achieved, they can retain one skill line from their base class and swap out two others with any of the six available classes. This opens up a staggering 3000 combinations, enabling players to tailor their playstyle to perfection. ESO Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in the new system, noting that extensive testing has been conducted to ensure balance, even with the anticipated increase in Power Levels.

Zenimax Online is also shifting towards a seasonal content model, which Studio Director Matt Firor believes will allow for more experimental releases and better responsiveness to player feedback. "We want to keep telling great stories, but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems," Firor explained. "This new cadence will broaden our focus and increase variety."

The upcoming chapter, Seasons of the Worm Cult, marks a significant milestone as a 10-year sequel to the original Molag Bal storyline. Players will explore the new Isle of Solstice zone, delving into the resurgence of the Worm Cult. Producer Susan Kath noted that while this season will span most of the year, future seasons will typically last between 3 to 6 months. Zenimax plans to revisit past storylines with "remix" seasons, hinting at an upcoming Dark Brotherhood-themed season.
On April 11, ESO announced via Twitter (X) the launch of a new 2025 Content Pass and Premium Edition, encompassing all past and future releases. The pass includes:
Both editions also offer exclusive collectibles:
Additionally, upon the release of Seasons of the Cult Part 1 in June, both the Content Pass and Premium Edition will unlock a unique mount, pet, and memento.

ESO is also offering Early Purchase rewards until May 7, including the Mages Guild Recall customized action. Other rewards include:
These rewards are available until June 2 for PC and June 18 for Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

The Premium Edition provides access to all previously released Chapters and Classes, from Morrowind to Gold Road, and includes the base-game Classes along with the Warden, Necromancer, and Arcanist.
With its 10th anniversary celebrations, ESO continues to expand its rich history and engage its supportive community. By revisiting past storylines, the game aims to complete unfinished narratives and deepen its lore. The Elder Scrolls Online is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
