The Exit 8 has made its way to Android, blending various intriguing elements into a unique gaming experience. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game is available for $3.99. It's not just any walking simulator; it's a journey filled with suspense and eeriness that challenges you with every step.
In The Exit 8, you find yourself navigating an endless underground passageway that resembles a Japanese metro station. You're trapped in a loop where everything from the tiles and lights to the posters and a solitary man walking towards you repeats incessantly. The challenge lies in spotting anomalies—subtle or glaring changes in your surroundings. A poster might display a different graphic, the lights might flicker unusually, or you might even encounter a river of blood instead of a floor. The core mechanic of the game is to observe these changes and react quickly.
The gameplay rule is simple: if you notice something odd, turn back. If not, continue forward. Your objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake. This means correctly spotting and reacting to eight anomalies in a row. Fail, and you'll have to start over.
The game's design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, with settings modeled after real Japanese metro stations such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. The claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture create an immersive environment that feels both familiar and unsettling.
The Exit 8 encourages active engagement with your surroundings, urging you to scrutinize every detail for signs of danger or reality shifts. This constant questioning of your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique and unpredictable.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took Kotake Create about nine months to develop. It garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
