To put it simply, PlayStation 5 doesn't have anything quite like Forza Horizon 5.
The Crew Motorfest comes close. Embracing the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" philosophy, its full-fledged festival vibe makes it resemble Forza Horizon more than its predecessors ever did.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown? Not quite. While Forza Horizon owes much to the groundbreaking MMO racing of the original Test Drive Unlimited, Solar Crown strayed too far—launching as an always-online racer without a dedicated solo mode. Contrast that with Horizon's seamless offline-online flexibility, a feature since Forza Horizon 2 in 2014.
Need for Speed Unbound? Its customization shines brighter than Horizon’s in some ways, but Unbound’s arcade-style high-speed chases make it an entirely different beast.
Simply put, Forza Horizon 5 remains the undisputed king of modern open-world racing—and now it's finally on PlayStation 5. Its breathtaking Mexican landscape. Its perfectly tuned drift mechanics. Its staggering lineup of over 900 cars, including rare gems you won’t find elsewhere. Everything that makes Horizon exceptional is now accessible to PlayStation players, many experiencing it for the first time.
The community's reaction has been a joy to witness.

The team was especially eager to welcome this wave of newcomers.
“I’m genuinely thrilled,” says Playground Games art director Don Arceta. “For so many players, this will be their first Forza Horizon experience. It’s exciting to imagine their journey, remembering how we felt playing Horizon for the first time.”
Arceta can’t wait to see PlayStation players unleash their creativity with Event Lab, Horizon 5’s robust track-building toolkit.
“With over 800 props in Event Lab, the community’s creations have blown us away,” he adds. “I’m hyped to see what PlayStation players craft—their creativity is going to elevate things further.”
“Oh, and PlayStation fans will get some cool Halo content too, thanks to Event Lab props!”
Impressive technical parity between the PS5 version and its Xbox/PC counterparts proves Playground's mastery—especially impressive given Horizon’s scale and PlayStation’s unfamiliar architecture.
“Adapting Horizon’s codebase from Xbox to PlayStation was no small feat,” admits Arceta. “Huge credit to Panic Button, who worked with Turn 10 and us to deliver the same flawless experience PlayStation fans deserve.”
As a car enthusiast, Horizon’s unrivaled Hot Wheels-style vehicle roster thrills me—now PlayStation players get to discover hidden gems their usual racing games never offered.
Playground lead designer David Orton believes Horizon 5’s staggering variety will win newcomers over.
“Horizon’s freedom is its strength,” says Orton. “Whether you love road racing, Rivals mode, photography, or building tracks in Event Lab—there’s something for everyone. It’s more than racing; it’s a playground.”
“Success for me? Hearing players say, ‘How did I miss this?’” says Arceta. “That moment of surprise hooks them—they’ll want to explore everything.”
Orton agrees: “For newcomers—whether they skipped Horizon due to platform limits or time—discovering its welcoming, fun-filled world will be transformative. That’s our win.”
Gaming tribalism runs deep, but Forza Horizon 5 just tore down a major barrier.
Let’s hope it’s not the last.
