Nintendo Switch 2 Update 20.2.0: Official Patch Notes

by Nora Nov 11,2025

Nintendo has rolled out a new system software update for both the Switch and Switch 2, updating their firmware to Version 20.2.0.

The latest release addresses several bug fixes across both platforms. According to trusted Nintendo dataminer OatmealDome, it also resolves an issue with the backward-compatible Nintendo Switch version of Portal 2, which no longer crashes after the update.

Additionally, Nintendo's official patch notes highlight fixes for problems with Parental Control settings and a system crash that occurred when attempting to find a new network connection.

Nintendo now synchronizes firmware updates for the Switch and Switch 2, using the same version number for both consoles, although the specific fixes in each update vary slightly. Complete details for both are included below.

Switch Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

Resolved an issue where Parental Control settings did not transfer from the Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 under certain conditions during system transfer. General system stability improvements have also been made to improve the user experience.

Switch 2 Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

Fixed an issue where Parental Control settings failed to transfer to the Nintendo Switch 2 from the original Nintendo Switch during a system transfer in specific situations. Also resolved a problem where the system would hang on "Searching for networks" in the Internet Settings menu. General stability enhancements have been implemented for a smoother user experience.

In related news, IGN recently reported on Nintendo’s updated developer guidelines for publishing games on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop—currently applicable only in Asia—aimed at curbing the influx of low-effort "slop" content that has been overwhelming the store and frustrating players.

Last week, Nintendo also confirmed it is discontinuing its Switch Game Vouchers program, which currently offers Nintendo Switch Online subscribers discounted access to Switch 1 games.
