Should You Use Pebbles or Herring in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?

by Alexander Mar 01,2025

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, choosing between Pebbles and Herring as your trusty steed is a significant decision. Both become available later in the game, after a prologue that sees Henry lose his original horse. Let's examine each option:

Pebbles:

You'll find Pebbles at the Semine estate before the Semine/Agnes wedding. She requires purchase but offers a strong sentimental value, having been Henry's companion before the game's events. Her initial stats may seem lower than Herring's, but this changes once you ride her for 35 kilometers. This unlocks a perk that significantly boosts her stamina, capacity, speed, and courage, making her a highly reliable and cost-effective choice. Her boosted stats are:

  • 217 Stamina
  • 353 Capacity
  • 53 Speed
  • 12 Courage

Herring:

Herring becomes available after completing the quest "For Whom the Bell Tolls." Offered by Otto von Bergow, he boasts higher base stats than Pebbles. However, his stat boost, unlocked after riding 50 kilometers, doesn't necessarily surpass Pebbles' boosted stats. You can also sell Herring to Kabat for 300 Groschen if you already have another horse.

The Verdict:

While Herring initially appears superior due to higher base stats, Pebbles emerges as the superior choice. Her lower initial stats are more than compensated for by her faster perk unlock (35km vs. 50km for Herring) and the significant stat boost she receives. Coupled with her lower cost (potentially free) and the sentimental connection to Henry, Pebbles offers the best overall value and reliability for the extensive travel required in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
