Saros Is Housemarque’s Successor to Returnal, Arriving in 2026

by Jonathan Feb 28,2025

Housemarque's next title, Saros, a successor to the acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, is set for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro. The game, revealed during the PlayStation State of Play, stars Rahul Kohli.

The cinematic trailer showcases classic Housemarque hallmarks. Players assume the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet plagued by an eclipse and a formidable, enigmatic entity. The emphasis on "returning stronger" and the spectacular displays of projectile combat strongly suggest a roguelite structure with the studio's signature bullet-hell action.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's signature gameplay-focused approach. While a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal.

However, significant gameplay differences distinguish Saros from its predecessor. According to Louden's PlayStation Blog post, Saros introduces permanent progression and resources. While the game world dynamically shifts upon player death, weapon and suit upgrades will persist between playthroughs.

Further details, including an extended gameplay showcase, are promised later this year. For a complete rundown of today's PlayStation State of Play announcements, check out our comprehensive recap.
