Unveiled gifts and Sony's updated policy for PSN on PC

Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy among players. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, coupled with regional service limitations, restricts access to new releases.

Recent announcements reveal a modified approach: while PSN tethering for PC remains, certain concessions have been made. The following games will not mandate PSN connection:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Players opting for PSN tethering will receive incentives:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Early access to the Black Bear armor set, the "Lost Things" chest, and resource packs.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In a November investor call, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged player resistance to PSN connection but defended it as crucial for security and order. While mentioning service-based games, he failed to clarify how mandatory PSN accounts enhance security in single-player experiences like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.

The gaming landscape has changed.
