The Witcher 4 won't be arriving in 2026, confirmed developer CD Projekt Red. Here's everything we know about the game's current development status and upcoming updates.
Fans anticipating The Witcher 4 will need to wait longer as CD Projekt Red confirmed the game won't launch within the next two years.
During the studio's FY2024 earnings call, executives disclosed financial targets tied to share-based incentive programs, followed by a telling statement: "While we don't plan to release The Witcher 4 by December 2026, we remain committed to achieving these financial goals."
When pressed for clarification during the Q&A session, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz stated: "We're not ready to announce specific release timing yet. For investor transparency, we can confirm the game won't launch within our current incentive program's timeframe ending December 31, 2026."
Despite the delayed timeline, development continues at full pace. First announced as Project Polaris in 2022, The Witcher IV entered full production last year according to CD Projekt's Q3 financial update.
"Among our projects, this is currently the most advanced," Nielubowicz noted. "We're entering the most intensive development phase. I want to thank the team for their hard work and look forward to continued progress."
The game was formally revealed at The Game Awards 2024 through a six-minute cinematic trailer. Unlike previous installments, Geralt of Rivia won't be the protagonist - instead featuring his adoptive daughter Ciri, now older and following in his footsteps.
This marks the first installment in a new Witcher trilogy confirmed by CD Projekt Red in October 2022. Subsequent titles - currently codenamed Project Canis Majoris and Project Orion - are planned to follow within six years after The Witcher 4's eventual release.
