Google Speech-to-Text Functionality

Speech Services provides speech-to-text capabilities to Google and other third-party apps, converting your spoken words into text. This feature is utilized by various applications, including:

• Google Maps, when you use your voice to search for places. • The Recorder App, to transcribe your recordings directly on your device. • The Phone App's Call Screen feature, which offers real-time transcription of your caller's speech. • Accessibility apps like Voice Access, enabling device operation through voice commands. • Dictation or keyboard apps, allowing you to dictate text messages by voice. • Apps with a search by voice feature, helping you quickly find your favorite shows or songs. • Language learning apps that recognize your spoken words as you practice a new language. • …and numerous other applications available in the Play Store.

To utilize Google's Speech-to-Text functionality on your Android device, navigate to Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Assist App. Select Speech Services by Google as your preferred voice input engine.

Google Text-to-Speech Functionality

Speech Services also enables applications to read the text on your screen aloud. It is used by:

• Google Play Books to offer a "Read Aloud" feature for your favorite books. • Google Translate to audibly speak translations, helping you understand the pronunciation of words. • Talkback and other accessibility applications for providing spoken feedback across your device. • …and many other applications available in the Play Store.

To use Google's Text-to-Speech functionality on your Android device, go to Settings > Languages & Input > Text-to-Speech output. Choose Speech Services by Google as your preferred engine.

Note that on many Android devices, Speech Services by Google is already pre-installed, but you can update to the latest version for optimal performance.
