**Players & Cards**

Tong-Its is strictly a three-player game, using a standard 52-card Anglo-American deck (no jokers). The cards rank from Ace (1 point) to King (10 points), with Jacks, Queens, and Kings each worth 10 points, and other cards valued at their face value.

**Objective**

The aim of Tong-Its is to form sets and runs through drawing and discarding, ultimately minimizing the count of unmatched cards in your hand. A run is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., ♥4, ♥5, ♥6 or ♠8, ♠9, ♠10, ♠J), and a set is three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., ♥7, ♣7, ♦7). Note that aces are low, and a card can only be part of one combination at a time.

**The Deal**

The first dealer is chosen randomly, with subsequent deals going to the winner of the previous hand. Cards are dealt counterclockwise, starting with the dealer who gets 13 cards, while the other players receive 12 cards each. The remaining cards form the stock, placed face down.

**The Play**

Each turn involves the following actions:

• **Draw**: Begin by taking a card from either the top of the stock or the discard pile, adding it to your hand. If choosing from the discard pile, you must be able to create a meld with it and expose it immediately.
• **Exposing Melds**: Optionally expose valid melds (sets or runs) from your hand. If you can meld a set of four without drawing from the discard pile, you can lay it down face down to open your hand secretly.
• **Laying off (sapaw)**: Optionally add cards to existing melds on the table, either yours or others', without needing to open your hand first. This action can prevent other players from drawing from the discard pile on their next turn.
• **Discard**: Conclude your turn by discarding one card from your hand onto the discard pile, face up.
