Gordang Batak
Gordang Sambilan is a traditional art form of the Batak Mandailing tribe. "Gordang" means drum or large drum, while "sambilan" means nine. Gordang Sambilan consists of nine drums of varying lengths and diameters, each producing a different tone. It is typically played by six people, with the smallest drums, numbers 1 and 2, serving as taba-taba, drum 3 as tepe-tepe, drum 4 as kudong-kudong, drum 5 as kudong-kudong nabalik, drum 6 as pasilion, and drums 7, 8, and 9 as jangat. Originally, Gordang Sambilan was only played at sacred events. However, as social culture has evolved, it is now commonly performed at weddings, to welcome guests, and during major celebrations. As a cultural heritage of Indonesia, Gordang Sambilan has been performed at the presidential palace.
