Alienware has officially launched its new 2025 mainstream gaming laptop series, the *Alienware Aurora*, with two 16-inch models now available for purchase through Dell. These laptops are designed to deliver high-performance gaming in a more refined and portable form factor compared to Alienware's traditional flagship systems.
The [ttpp]Alienware Aurora 16[/ttpp] is the entry-level model, priced at $1,949.99. It features an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with 85W TGP. Meanwhile, the higher-end [ttpp]Alienware Aurora 16X[/ttpp] retails for $2,299.99 and comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with 115W TGP. Both models are expected to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both laptops offer the option to upgrade to an RTX 5060 GPU; however, these configurations are currently available for preorder only, as the RTX 5060 has not yet been officially released.
Unlike other Alienware laptops that feature bold, gamer-centric aesthetics like RGB lighting and aggressive angles, the new Aurora series adopts a sleeker, more minimalist design. These laptops resemble premium ultrabooks rather than typical gaming rigs. The Aurora 16, in particular, sports a clean white keyboard backlight similar to Apple’s MacBook line, moving away from the flashy RGB customization found on Alienware’s Area-51 series.
Despite their understated appearance, both models pack serious performance under the hood. Each system includes Alienware’s advanced Cryo Chamber cooling technology, which uses dual fans and copper heatpipes to efficiently manage thermal output. The Aurora 16 benefits from lower-voltage components—namely a less power-hungry Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP—making it slightly thinner and lighter than the Aurora 16X. In contrast, the Aurora 16X incorporates a more robust cooling solution to handle the increased heat generated by its higher-performance Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and RTX 5070 GPU with 115W TGP.
Both the Aurora 16 and Aurora 16X are significantly more affordable than Alienware’s recently released Area-51 series, which starts above $3,000. Furthermore, they are more travel-friendly, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and up to 30% thinner than the similarly sized Area-51 16-inch model. Considering current trends in GPU pricing—as reported by Tom’s Hardware—it’s unlikely these models will see major price reductions soon, making them a compelling value for budget-conscious gamers seeking powerful mobile performance.
For serious gamers, the Aurora 16X offers a clear step up over the standard Aurora 16. For just $300 more, you gain access to a more powerful processor, enhanced graphics performance, double the RAM and storage, a superior display, and additional connectivity options. Here's a breakdown of what you get:
With these added features and performance gains, the Aurora 16X is ideal for users who demand desktop-level power in a portable package.
