Amadeus Cho: Marvel's Brainy, Powerful Teen Hero

While Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man centers on a new Peter Parker, the animated series delves deep into the Marvel Universe. Many supporting characters are based on comic book heroes and villains, including Amadeus Cho, an Oscorp intern alongside Peter. But who is Amadeus Cho, and why is he a significant Marvel teen hero?

Who is Amadeus Cho?

Amadeus Cho is exceptionally intelligent, ranking among the smartest in the Marvel Universe. His brilliance, coupled with his rebellious nature, often leads him into conflicts with authority. He's known for his affinity for fugitive heroes and his unwavering loyalty to friends.

Amadeus's intellectual prowess is matched by his physical strength. He briefly became the Hulk after absorbing Bruce Banner's gamma radiation. Though the classic Hulk returned, Amadeus continues his heroic endeavors as Brawn, retaining his intelligence and personality even in his transformed state.

Amadeus Cho's Powers and Abilities

Amadeus possesses extraordinary intelligence, particularly in pattern recognition and rapid mental calculations. His incredible mind, however, comes with a significant appetite.

As the Hulk (and now Brawn), he boasts immense strength, regeneration, and durability. Unlike the classic Hulk, Amadeus maintains his intellect and personality, avoiding the rage-fueled persona. His Brawn form is slightly less powerful than his Hulk form but still allows for powerful transformations when necessary.

Amadeus Cho's Comic Book History

Created by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa, Amadeus debuted in 2005's Amazing Fantasy Vol. 2 #15. He gained recognition as the world's seventh smartest person after winning an Excello Soap Company competition, only to become a fugitive after his family was killed. His encounter with the Hulk forged a lasting friendship.

Amadeus played a crucial role in 2007's World War Hulk crossover, partnering with Hercules. Their adventures continued in The Incredible Hercules, leading to their joint efforts in saving the multiverse. After absorbing Bruce Banner's gamma radiation, Amadeus became the Hulk, his exploits documented in Totally Awesome Hulk. He also joined the Champions alongside other teen heroes. Currently, he operates as Brawn.

Amadeus Cho Beyond the Comics

Amadeus has appeared in various Marvel animated series and video games, often as the Hulk or Iron Spider. In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, voiced by Aleks Le, he's portrayed as a confident scientist and Peter Parker's Oscorp colleague, potentially foreshadowing his future as a superhero. His mother's appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron hints at a possible future MCU debut.
