Wednesday is set to become the new favorite day for movie lovers, as AMC Theaters has announced they will be cutting their ticket prices in half on Wednesdays. This move aims to boost attendance during the typically slower mid-week period. Yes, you read that correctly: tickets will be half off.
Starting July 9, this all-day discount will be applied to the standard adult evening ticket price. What's even more exciting is that premium showings, such as IMAX or 4DX, will also enjoy this 50% reduction. This is a fantastic deal, especially considering the cost of an IMAX movie for an individual, not to mention for families or groups.
The movie industry has faced challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a significant drop in ticket sales as people stayed away from theaters. Although recovery has been slow, there are signs of improvement. AMC CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic, noting that despite a low box office turnout in the first quarter, the situation has improved. He referred to the initial dip as an "anomaly" that has since corrected itself, thanks to the strong performances of films like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners.
Since April 1, ticket sales have been robust. A Minecraft Movie has grossed an impressive $408 million to date, while Sinners has earned $215 million and continues to draw audiences.
The upcoming summer blockbuster season promises even more excitement, with Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Disney's live-action Lilo and Stitch on the horizon. Additionally, Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are set to premiere in July. These releases are poised to further boost box office numbers, and AMC's new initiative is expected to play a significant role in driving attendance.
