Capcom Teases Resident Evil 9 Celebrating RE4 Sales

by Emery Apr 30,2026

Capcom has discreetly teased Resident Evil 9 in a way that’s hiding in plain sight.

Today, April 25, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a short social media clip celebrating reaching an incredible 10 million players. The video shows Ada Wong exchanging a quiet conversation with one of gaming’s most infamous villains, before shifting to Leon surrounded by infected villagers wearing party hats as they slowly advance toward the church.

It then transitions to a rock track, with Dr Salvador strumming his chainsaw like a guitar—yes, you read that right—and the camera pulls back to reveal Leon pumping his fist. In the background, a rustic sign displays the message: "Thank you for playing."

You can watch the full video here:

However, if you turn that sign sideways, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which stands for the number 9.

Although this could be purely coincidental, horror game insider Dusk Golem notes that earlier in the video, the bottom plank of the sign is clearly missing, confirming it was intentionally placed. Interpret that as you like.

"I know exactly what you did here," commented one stunned viewer, adding a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline Resident Evil game will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed Resident Evil 7.

"It was quite a challenge to decide what direction to take after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi previously stated. "But I cracked it, and honestly, it feels big. While I can’t go into specifics just yet, I hope everyone looks forward to when I can." Although not confirmed, it’s rumored that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
