Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Now Available

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility issues for several Assassin's Creed titles. Fortunately, Ubisoft has released patches addressing the problems in Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. These updates are automatically applied via Steam, restoring functionality for affected players. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of free space, while the Valhalla patch needs 500 MB.

However, some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, remain affected by the Windows update. While previous patches mitigated issues in other titles such as Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance problems may persist. Players experiencing difficulties with Odyssey are advised to postpone updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated fix is released.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. While the patches for Origins and Valhalla are a welcome resolution, the lingering issues highlight a potential oversight in Microsoft's testing process. Reports of problems surfaced months before the official 24H2 rollout, raising concerns about the update's thoroughness, especially given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade. The majority of games appear unaffected, but this incident underscores the importance of comprehensive compatibility testing before major OS releases.
