Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years with Upcoming Projects and a Special Concert

Square Enix has announced the 30th anniversary of the beloved RPG, Chrono Trigger. To mark this milestone, they've promised a series of projects launching throughout the year. While specifics remain under wraps, the announcement hints at possibilities extending beyond the game itself, fueling much speculation among fans.

For decades, fans have eagerly awaited a proper remaster or modern console release. Despite its iconic status as one of the greatest JRPGs ever created, Chrono Trigger has never received a full remake, only a PS1 port in 1999. While it's available on PC and mobile, a definitive modern version remains a sought-after goal. Square Enix's history of revisiting its classics offers hope, but for now, the only confirmed anniversary event is a special concert showcasing its legendary soundtrack.

This YouTube livestream will air on March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT, running into the early hours of the next morning.

Chrono Trigger, originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, is a time-traveling RPG developed by a legendary team: Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Players follow Crono and his companions as they journey through diverse eras, from prehistoric jungles to a dystopian future, recruiting allies, altering history, and facing one of gaming's most iconic final bosses.

This 30th anniversary is a significant event. Although a remake or console port isn't yet confirmed, Square Enix's announcement leaves the possibility open.
