Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update

While waiting for the highly anticipated DOOM: The Dark Ages, many players are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news! The developers have resumed work and recently released an update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation.

This update significantly improves the technical aspects of the games, and adds much more. Crucially, it now includes support for multiplayer modifications. Mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are compatible. Cooperative play has also been enhanced, allowing all players to pick up items and introducing an observer mode for players waiting to be revived. Multiplayer network code has been optimized for smoother gameplay. Finally, the mod loader can now handle more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.

Turning to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, exceeding those found in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the team's commitment to making the game accessible to a broad audience.

Players will have granular control over various aspects, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, game tempo, demon aggression, and even parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirms that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't required to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly with DOOM Eternal.
