Cooking and Eating Before Hunting in Monster Hunter Wilds: A Guide

Monster hunting is a challenging endeavor that requires thorough preparation, including a nutritious meal. Here's a detailed guide on how to cook and eat your own meals in *Monster Hunter Wilds*.

  • Which Meals to Cook?

Cooking and Eating Meals in Monster Hunter Wilds

In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, unlike previous entries like *World* and *Rise* where you could rely on a Palico NPC to cook for you, you're now responsible for preparing your own meals. There are two primary methods to do this:

  • By cooking in your tent: When you accept a new quest, take a moment to prepare. Head to your tent, navigate to the BBQ Menu by pressing L1 or R1, and select the "Grill a Meal" option.
  • By using the Portable BBQ Grill: Alternatively, you can access the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory. Press the square button to use it and cook your meal from there.

Which Meals to Cook?

In the cooking menu, you have three meal options: recommended, custom, or favorite.

  • Recommended Meals: These are straightforward and consist of a Ration plus any additional ingredients you have. Cooking with just Rations will provide a 30-minute buff, boosting your Health by +50, Stamina by +150, and Attack by +2. Adding ingredients can extend this buff by an additional 20 minutes. This meal is a solid baseline for your hunt preparation.
  • Custom Meals: For a more tailored approach, opt for the custom meal option. Here, you can select one Ration (meat, fish, or veggies), one ingredient, and your finishing touches. Different Rations offer various buffs, such as increased attack, defense, or elemental resistances. Ingredients and finishing touches enhance your meal further, providing benefits like improved gathering or reduced damage taken.

Once you've chosen your meal, start cooking. Your Hunter will automatically eat, ensuring you're well-prepared for the hunt ahead.
