Critical Role Video Game Announcement Could Arrive 'Any Day,' Travis Willingham Confirms

by Andrew Mar 16,2025

The wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of releasing its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting at an imminent announcement – "any day now," he says.

During a recent interview with Business Insider, the Critical Role team revealed exciting plans for the future. While details remain scarce regarding the game's title and its precise connection to the Critical Role universe, Willingham confirmed the team is diligently working on the project.

"They'll actually be getting their hands on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria," he explained, describing the game's unique player experience.

Willingham, a prominent actor and star of Critical Role, co-founded the company alongside other well-known voice actors including Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, and others. Since its debut, Critical Role has expanded into a multifaceted entertainment universe, notably with its successful Amazon Prime Video spin-off, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

This upcoming video game will join Critical Role's diverse portfolio of projects, though it won't necessarily be directly tied to them. In December 2024, Willingham told Rolling Stone that the team was actively pursuing a video game spin-off, describing it as the culmination of a multi-year endeavor. Whether the game will follow one of the show's established campaigns or introduce an original storyline within Exandria remains unknown.

At the time, the team anticipated an announcement before the end of 2024 or early 2025. Now, several months into 2025, the announcement appears imminent.

“Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels,” Willingham told Rolling Stone. “You know, there’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now. And we’ve seen studios sort of bear and weather those strains. It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem.”

While a release date remains unannounced, fans can look forward to the upcoming details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
