Big Bad Wolf, the creative force behind acclaimed games such as Vampire: The Masquerade Swansong and The Council, has unveiled their newest venture: Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. The announcement was accompanied by a striking CG trailer that introduces us to Noah, the protagonist struggling with the brink of madness, the submerged city of R'lyeh, and the iconic Great Old One, Cthulhu himself.
Set in the year 2053, the narrative of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss unfolds against the backdrop of corporations mining the ocean's depths, inadvertently awakening an ancient cosmic horror. Players will assume the role of Noah, an agent within Interpol's clandestine Occult Affairs division. His mission? To investigate the mysterious vanishings of miners in the Pacific Ocean. Assisted by an AI companion named Key, players will delve into the mysteries of the sunken city of R'lyeh, tackle complex puzzles, and battle to preserve their sanity amidst Cthulhu's maddening presence.
Leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss promises to deliver surreal, reality-altering environments that fully immerse players in its eerie atmosphere. The trailer, now available, hints at a gripping and suspenseful journey. Mark your calendars; Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is slated for release in 2026, and it will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
In other gaming news, Frogwares has also revealed gameplay footage for The Sinking City 2, another title inspired by the haunting works of H.P. Lovecraft.
