In an interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves reunite as Knuckles and Shadow, respectively), Elba expressed his strong belief that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation would be spectacular, particularly with himself and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles. He stated, "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."

Elba's Solomon Reed and Reeves' iconic Johnny Silverhand, offer a compelling dynamic ripe for cinematic exploration. The potential for a live-action adaptation isn't mere speculation; Variety reported in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is collaborating with Anonymous Content on a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action The Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Expands its Universe

Beyond the live-action possibilities, the Cyberpunk franchise continues to thrive. The prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, offering a glimpse into the lives of Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A full volume is anticipated in 2025. Additionally, a Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is slated for 2025, and CDPR has hinted at a new animated series in development. The future of Cyberpunk looks bright, with multiple projects in the works.
