Death Stranding 2 introduces Hololive VTuber Pekora as a Prepper NPC, adding to its eclectic cast. Discover more about her surprise role and other celebrity cameos in the game.
Death Stranding 2 (DS2) expands its vibrant roster with Hololive VTuber Usada Pekora, who steps into the role of a Prepper NPC. Kojima Productions shared the news on Twitter (X) on May 29, revealing Pekora as an isolated character in the game’s universe.
Usada Pekora, a standout Japanese VTuber from Hololive’s 3rd generation, known as "hololive fantasy," boasts over 2.7 million subscribers, making her the fourth most-followed Hololive star.
A brief teaser clip showcased Pekora greeting players as they emerge from a Prepper Shelter, a fortified bunker for these solitary NPCs. Her exact role remains a mystery, with the announcement teasing, “What kind of Prepper could she be…? Discover it when the game launches!”

Pekora’s connection with Kojima Productions isn’t new—she visited their studio last year. Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind Death Stranding, shared a cheerful photo last August on Twitter, posing with Pekora beside the studio’s Ludens statue, both flashing thumbs-up.
Pekora expressed her gratitude in a tweet, calling the visit unforgettable. Fans, intrigued by this collaboration, are thrilled to see her in-game. Kojima, a known Pekora enthusiast, has often shared his admiration for her livestreams. This cameo taps into Hololive’s massive fanbase, promising to draw more players to DS2.

Kojima hinted at additional celebrity appearances during the latest KojiPro podcast episode. He revealed that numerous individuals were scanned for DS2, though storage constraints forced the team to exclude half of them.
According to Genki Gamer’s translation, Kojima noted that most scanned figures portray Preppers, with others taking on significant roles, many lending their voices. The full lineup of cameos remains under wraps, keeping fans eager for the game’s release.

The original Death Stranding set a precedent with high-profile cameos, featuring Conan O’Brien as “The Wandering MC,” manga legend Junji Ito as “The Engineer,” and The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley as “The Ludens Fan,” among others.
