Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide

Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance your weapons and armor.

Upgrade Locations: Workbenches and Party Camps

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require various materials depending on the item type and quality. Many materials are readily available in the game world or craftable. However, advancing a weapon's quality requires progressively rarer Adra.

Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. After interacting with a Waystone, select the option to set up camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and are fast-travel enabled.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels

Avowed uses a two-tiered system to determine gear power: Quality and Upgrade Levels.

• Quality: Represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and an adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Lower-quality gear is ineffective against higher-level foes. Weapons and armor perform optimally against enemies of equal or lower quality.

• Upgrade Levels (+0 to +3): Within each Quality level, three additional upgrade tiers exist. While less impactful than quality increases, these still boost stats. All three levels must be maxed before advancing to the next Quality.

Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear

Avowed features standard and unique weapons and armor.

• Standard Gear: Common loot or merchant purchases. These can only be upgraded to Superb Quality.

• Unique Gear: Named items obtained through quests or boss drops; some are sold by merchants. These can reach Legendary Quality and possess unique bonuses.

Focus your upgrade resources on unique gear. Standard gear serves as temporary replacements and should be sold or salvaged for materials.
