Dragon Age: Veilguard Surprises with Free Weapon DLC After Update Drought

by Owen May 15,2025

BioWare may have largely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but the dedicated team remaining on the project has managed to surprise fans with a small yet exciting addition: a new DLC weapons pack. This unexpected update has sparked a wave of excitement among the Dragon Age community.

Yesterday, the RPG's Steam page was updated to include the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on that has taken fans by surprise. Given that EA had previously indicated minimal future support for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, this new content is a pleasant shock. Especially after the fifth patch in January, which focused on addressing game-breaking bugs and hinted at no further significant updates, this DLC feels like a small miracle.

Interestingly, the Rook’s Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before April 8, 2025. Although there's no detailed description of what the bundle includes, players have worked out that it offers a set of Watchful skins accessible in their Rook’s in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

A Steam review commented, “Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!” Meanwhile, a Redditor expressed, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to positive reviews from critics in October. However, according to EA, it failed to “resonate with a broad enough audience.” Consequently, lead members of its team announced they would be leaving BioWare in late January, with much of its staff either laid off or reassigned to other roles within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio was shifting to put its “full focus” on the next Mass Effect.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles just four months after its launch. No other plans for its future have been announced, leaving fans eager to see what's next for this beloved series.
