EA's Rejection of Dead Space 4: A Developer's Perspective

Glen Schofield, the creator of the Dead Space franchise, recently revealed in an interview with Dan Allen Gaming that EA showed little interest in developing a fourth installment. This article delves into the details of this revelation and the developers' future hopes.

Dead Space 4: On Hold or Cancelled?

Dead Space 4 Rejected by EAThe possibility of a Dead Space 4 is currently uncertain. During the interview, Schofield, along with Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, confirmed EA's rejection of their proposal for a new game. The conversation began with Stone recounting his son's enthusiasm for the series, highlighting the continued fan demand.

The developers attempted to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA earlier this year, but their proposal was swiftly dismissed. Schofield explained that EA's response was a polite but firm "no," citing their focus on established metrics and shipping schedules. Stone added that the current industry climate fosters risk aversion, particularly with older franchises.

Despite the success of the recent Dead Space remake (scoring 89 on Metacritic and "Very Positive" on Steam), EA's apparent reluctance suggests that the remake's success wasn't enough to warrant the risk of a new entry. Schofield emphasized EA's data-driven approach to decision-making.

However, the developers remain hopeful about the future of Dead Space 4. Stone expressed confidence that the project could eventually be realized, and his colleagues echoed this sentiment. While they are currently working on separate projects, their passion for the franchise remains strong, leaving the door open for a potential revival of the acclaimed horror series down the line.
