Elder Scrolls IV Remake Rumors Reawaken with Fresh Disclosure

Rumored Oblivion Remake Fuels Fan Excitement for 2025

A LinkedIn profile belonging to a game developer strongly suggests an Oblivion remake, built using Unreal Engine 5, is currently under development. This adds weight to persistent rumors and speculation surrounding a potential remake or remaster of the beloved Elder Scrolls title.

The buzz around an Oblivion remake has been building for years, with a 2023 rumor suggesting a 2024 or 2025 launch. Xbox insider Jez Corden further fueled the anticipation in late December 2024, predicting a reveal during a January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct. Although unconfirmed, the precedent of similar events in January 2023 and 2024 makes this a plausible scenario.

Adding significant credence to these rumors is a LinkedIn post from a Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a Chinese development studio reportedly involved in the project. The post describes work on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While the game isn't explicitly named, the context and engine specification strongly point towards Oblivion, suggesting a full remake rather than a simple remaster. This contrasts with a previously reported Fallout 3 remaster, whose status remains unclear.

LinkedIn Profile Strengthens Oblivion Remake Claims

Released in 2006, Oblivion, the sequel to 2002's Morrowind, was critically acclaimed for its expansive world, visuals, and soundtrack. Its enduring popularity is evidenced by the ongoing Skyblivion project, a fan-made recreation in Skyrim's engine, which recently hinted at a 2025 release.

The future of the Elder Scrolls franchise beyond Oblivion remains a mystery. The only trailer for Elder Scrolls VI, released in 2018, offers little insight into its development. Bethesda has confirmed it as their next major title after Starfield, with Todd Howard estimating a release timeframe of "15 to 17 years after Skyrim." While a release date remains elusive, fans are eagerly anticipating a new trailer before the end of 2025. The potential Oblivion remake announcement could add to the excitement surrounding the series' future.
