Emberstoria, a new mobile strategy RPG from Square Enix, launches exclusively in Japan on November 27th. The game, set in the world of Purgatory, features resurrected warriors ("Embers") battling monsters. It boasts a classic Square Enix style: a dramatic, almost melodramatic storyline, stunning artwork, and a diverse cast of characters recruited to build your flying city, Anima Arca. The game features over 40 voice actors.
While a Western release isn't confirmed, anticipation is high. However, recent news regarding Square Enix's decision to transfer Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent's operations to NetEase raises questions about the company's future mobile strategy. Emberstoria's release could be a significant indicator of this strategy. A global release might not be simple, but it's not impossible, and the method of its eventual Western release (if any) could reveal much about Square Enix's mobile game plans.

The exclusive Japanese release highlights the frequent disparity between Japanese and Western mobile game markets. For those intrigued by this regional exclusive and other Japanese mobile games currently unavailable internationally, a curated list of desirable Japanese mobile titles is available for exploration.
