Sony has announced an increase to the recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 consoles in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The company attributes the move to a difficult economic climate, characterized by high inflation and unfavorable currency exchange rates.
The price adjustments were formally confirmed in a post on the official PlayStation Blog.
The pricing for the PS5 Pro model will not be affected and remains at its current level.
Following comparable price increases implemented in 2022, the PS5 is now significantly more expensive in numerous regions compared to its original launch price.
In Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition now costs €100/£70 more than at launch (rising from €400/£360). In Australia, the standard PS5 is AUD $80 higher (up from AUD $750), while the digital version sees an AUD $150 increase (from AUD $600). In New Zealand, the standard model is NZD $130 more (up from NZD $820), and the digital edition has risen by NZD $210 (from NZD $650).
Conversely, the standalone PS5 Disc Drive will see a price reduction to €80/£70/AUD $125/NZD $140.
