Nearly three decades after its theatrical debut, Paul W.S. Anderson's iconic film *Event Horizon* is expanding its universe with a new prequel. IDW Publishing has announced *Event Horizon: Dark Descent*, a gripping five-issue comic series set to delve into the harrowing events preceding the movie and shed light on the fate of the original Event Horizon crew.

Helmed by acclaimed writer Christian Ward, known for *Batman: City of Madness*, and artist Tristan Jones, famous for *Aliens: Defiance*, this series promises to maintain the film's intense and mature rating. Pip Martin, celebrated for *That Texas Blood*, will handle the colors, while an impressive lineup of artists including Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson will contribute to the striking cover art.

IDW's official description teases a terrifying journey: *Embracing the hard-R rating of the shocking movie, EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5 issues) will lightspeed jump into comic shops this August. Set before the events of the film and accessible to new readers, this series uncovers the chilling final moments of the original Event Horizon crew. What truly befell Captain Kilpack and his team as they ventured into a realm of unimaginable torments? Brace yourself as demonic forces, led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, unleash horror and evil upon the crew in a gripping narrative.*

Christian Ward expressed his excitement and reverence for the project, stating, "It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously and I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve. Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again.”

Jones added, "I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people. It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."

Play*Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1* is slated for release on August 20, 2025.
