Feral Interactive Drops the Imperium Update for ROME: Total War

Feral Interactive has unleashed a massive free update, dubbed the Imperium Update, for ROME: Total War on Android. This update, arriving four years after the game's initial 2018 launch, delivers a host of gameplay refinements, enhanced controls, and significant quality-of-life improvements. The same update will roll out next week for the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander.

What's New in the Imperium Update for ROME: Total War?

Borrowing the best features from Feral's more recent mobile titles like Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE, the Imperium Update introduces three crucial new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These enhancements provide far greater command over your units, leading to more precise and strategic battles. Now, you can simply tap and hold to move armies, agents, or fleets, eliminating the need for manual path dragging.

Positioning Mode allows for fine-tuned unit placement with a tap-and-hold mechanism. The new Group Grid feature simplifies unit group management via a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode dynamically allows ranged units to seamlessly transition into close-quarters combat when necessary. A game-changer is the addition of Command Slowdown, which intelligently slows the game speed during complex order issuance. And for the first time, keyboard and mouse support is now available for Android (and iPad) users.

The minimap has undergone a significant redesign, mirroring the smoother zooming and navigation found in MEDIEVAL II. A handy reset button allows for quick reversion to the default view.

The update is live now on the Google Play Store for all ROME: Total War owners on Android. Don't forget to check back next week for the updated Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions.
