GOG unveils one-click mods, Skyblivion arrives this year

by Alexander Mar 30,2026

GOG has introduced its latest feature: one-click mod installation.

The PC platform explained that, since installing mods can often be time-consuming, its One-Click Mods initiative allows players to browse, install, and use mods "more quickly and easily than ever before." To streamline the process, GOG has compiled a curated collection of premium mods, directly integrating them with their respective games for the most seamless installation possible.

GOG also stated that "mods are an integral part of preserving video game history." These community-created modifications can fix bugs, restore cut scenes, quests, and characters, and even provide "brand-new content" developed by fans.

Currently, the library includes mods for Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete, Doom 3, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, and Fallout 4. For Heroes of Might and Magic 3, this includes an expansion introducing new factions, campaigns, creatures, artifacts, and numerous quality-of-life upgrades such as a functional multiplayer lobby. For Fallout 4, it features a one-click install of Fallout: London, a standalone story set in the UK during the events of the original game's apocalypse.

The Doom 3 offering is the Phobos mod, a prequel to the base game that offers a "narrative-driven, classic-style FPS experience with modern refinements." For Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, users get the comprehensive unofficial patch, fixing many bugs "left in the original release" and restoring enhanced cut content like quests, levels, characters, and dialogue.

Additionally, the highly anticipated Skyblivion mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is scheduled to arrive on GOG later this year and will be included in the One-Click Mods project.

Skyblivion is a volunteer-driven effort by the TESRenewal modding group to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within Skyrim: Special Edition. Bethesda has endorsed the project, even gifting Oblivion Remastered keys to the entire Skyblivion team, despite having released its own Oblivion Remastered in April.

This is GOG's newest initiative in a series of efforts focused on game preservation. Last year, the company launched a preservation program to safeguard the long-term availability of titles such as Resident Evil, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Witcher 2. This move addresses growing concern among developers and players that the shift toward online-only and digital-exclusive games could lead to titles becoming completely inaccessible, as seen with The Crew, which Ubisoft delisted and shut down in March 2024.
