Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently discussed the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in mods and potential DLC. Read on for details.

No Immediate DLC Plans, but Player Demand Could Change That
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, they ultimately prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that resource constraints led to this decision. However, he left the door open for future DLC, indicating that strong player demand could prompt a reconsideration.

A Message to the Modding Community: Creativity with Responsibility
The PC release of FF7 Rebirth, while lacking official mod support, is expected to attract modders. Hamaguchi expressed respect for the modding community's creativity but urged them to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.

The potential for transformative modding, as seen with games like Counter-Strike, is acknowledged, but the need to maintain a responsible online environment is emphasized.

PC Version Improvements and Challenges
The PC version boasts enhanced graphics, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing previous criticisms about the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. Higher-end PCs will benefit from even more detailed 3D models and textures beyond the PS5 capabilities.

Porting the mini-games proved challenging, requiring extensive work to implement unique key configuration settings.

FF7 Rebirth, the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, originally launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version launches January 23, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
