At Droid Gamers, we receive a variety of tech gadgets, but a projector was a first for us. The Formovie Episode One caught our attention, especially given its potential to stream mobile games on a larger screen. This projector is designed for those on a budget, and we believe it not only meets but exceeds those expectations, despite some minor drawbacks.
When you unbox the Episode One, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the substantial feel of pricier models, its weight of three pounds makes it impressively portable, perfect for taking on the go.
The connectivity options are somewhat limited, featuring only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, given the price point, this should suffice for most users' needs.
Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest projector, and it struggled in direct sunlight during our tests. However, it performed admirably in darker conditions, which is to be expected. Every film, TV show, and streamed game we tested displayed clearly, although we found the best image quality at a distance of at least 10 feet.
The built-in speaker produces a somewhat tinny sound, which is functional but not ideal. For an enhanced audio experience, we recommend connecting an external speaker to the Episode One.
The user interface is straightforward and user-friendly, making setup and navigation simpler than many of the more expensive projectors we've encountered. This simplicity, combined with its budget-friendly approach, is a definite advantage.
Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any one area, but it offers a reliable all-around performance that should satisfy most casual users.
*If you decide to purchase an Episode One projector, you'll receive a $15/€15 Netflix gift card as a bonus, available until May 27th. Click here to take advantage of this offer.*
