Next Take-Two GTA 6 Trailer Nears Release Date

by Layla Nov 06,2025

It may be quite some time before we see the second Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, following remarks from the head of Rockstar's parent company, who expressed a preference for releasing promotional content closer to the actual launch window.

Rockstar shattered viewing records when it debuted the first GTA 6 trailer back in December 2023, but has remained completely silent ever since. The 15-month gap with no updates has fueled increasingly outlandish fan theories about when the next trailer will arrive.

These include analyzing the number of holes in the net of Lucia's prison door, counting the bullet holes in the car from the first trailer, and even decoding license plates. But the biggest conspiracy theory surrounds GTA 6's ongoing "moon watch"—which, interestingly, did accurately predict the date Rockstar announced for Trailer 1, though it was subsequently debunked as a clue for the second trailer.

The big question remains: when will GTA 6 Trailer 2 drop? We still don't have any clearer idea, but based on comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, fans might have to wait until much nearer GTA 6’s actual launch date to get another glimpse of the world’s most anticipated video game.

During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick was asked directly: why keep GTA 6’s release date so tightly under wraps?

“The level of hype for this title might be the highest I’ve ever witnessed for any entertainment property,” Zelnick responded. “And I’ve been in the industry a long time, having worked across every kind of entertainment.

“Our goal is to sustain that anticipation and excitement. Some competitors map out their marketing schedule years ahead. We feel it’s better to share promotional material relatively close to launch, in order to build excitement while managing expectations. We don’t always nail it, but that’s our strategy.”

There are a couple of key takeaways here. First, Zelnick’s rationale for keeping the release date secret—“to maintain the anticipation and excitement”—is something both fans and media have speculated about, and former Rockstar developers have confirmed.

Mike York, a former Rockstar New England animator who spent six years contributing to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 before departing in 2017, explained on his YouTube channel that the company intentionally leans into the speculation. By saying nothing about the game or the second trailer’s release, they encourage even more fan theories.

“They’re grasping at every detail, trying to come up with really cool ideas to predict the next trailer’s release,” he said of the community.

“Rockstar is famously secretive, and it’s a clever strategy—it generates allure, mystery, and keeps the conversation going without them lifting a finger. The longer they stay silent, the better, because it keeps people eager and talking, with that sense of not knowing what’s coming.”

York added that Rockstar is likely ignoring fan demands for a Trailer 2 release date announcement precisely for this reason.

“They could easily announce the trailer date and just say, ‘Hey, it’s coming then,’ but they don’t. That’s deliberate—it’s an incredibly effective marketing strategy. When you think about it, it spawns all these intriguing theories.

“This brings the fan community together. It’s a smart way to keep players talking about your game between official updates.

“All these fan theories are beneficial. They build hype, keep people talking, and deepen the game’s mystique.”

The other notable point from Zelnick’s statement is the implication that Trailer 2 may not arrive until we're much closer to GTA 6’s actual release in fall 2025 (barring any delays). If that’s the case, it could be another six months before we see more from GTA 6.
