Henry Cavill's 'Tremendous' Bond Audition Leaks Online

by Madison May 16,2025

In a fascinating turn of events, audition tapes from the 2005 casting for James Bond have surfaced online, offering a glimpse into what could have been. These tapes, which appeared on the Ron South YouTube channel, showcase performances by several notable actors, including Henry Cavill, Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr. The channel, run by an enthusiastic filmmaker with 1,890 subscribers, has brought these previously unseen auditions to light.

Among the auditions, Henry Cavill's performance as James Bond has drawn significant attention. Over the years, many have speculated that Cavill would have been an excellent choice for the iconic role. This sentiment was echoed by none other than Martin Campbell, the director of "Casino Royale," who praised Cavill's audition as "tremendous." Despite Campbell's preference for Cavill, the decision ultimately went in favor of Daniel Craig, who went on to portray 007.

While Cavill did not secure the role of James Bond, he embraced the spy genre in the film "Argylle," where he starred alongside a talented cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O’Hara. Unfortunately, "Argylle" did not meet critical expectations, receiving a disappointing 4/10 from IGN despite its stellar lineup.

Cavill's career, however, remains robust and diverse. He has portrayed iconic characters such as Superman in the DC Universe and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of "The Witcher," showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal in the entertainment industry.
