Insider: GTA 6 special edition and additional GTA Online payments can cost up to $150

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, was a driving force behind the $70 price point for AAA game releases. Concerns exist that they might push pricing even higher with Grand Theft Auto 6.

While a standard edition of GTA 6 might remain in the $70 range, industry insiders suggest a premium edition priced between $100 and $150 could be offered, potentially including early access.

Tez2, a known games industry insider, notes that Take-Two already sells GTA Online and Red Dead Online separately. GTA 6 will be the first title to launch with online and story modes sold as distinct products; the story mode will be part of a "complete package" encompassing both.

This dual-pricing strategy necessitates careful consideration. The cost of the standalone online component will influence the overall price, and the price of the story mode upgrade for online-only purchasers remains uncertain.

A lower price for the online version could attract players unable to afford the $70 or $80 full game, creating an opportunity for Take-Two. These players could then be incentivized to upgrade to access the story mode. Furthermore, players wanting the story mode but unable to afford the upgrade could be steered towards a subscription model similar to Xbox Game Pass, leveraging GTA+. This ensures continued revenue from players who opt for ongoing gameplay over a one-time upgrade purchase, further benefiting Take-Two.
