Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct will unveil four games, with the fourth remaining a mystery. Hints suggest it's a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a long history.
Xbox's annual Developer Direct, returning January 23rd, will showcase Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The identity of the fourth game, however, is shrouded in secrecy. Speculation runs rampant among fans, with possibilities ranging from Fable and The Outer Worlds 2 to a Gears of War title.
Industry insider Jez Corden suggests the mystery game is a new entry in a long-standing Japanese IP, ruling out some first-party Xbox studio titles. While a new Final Fantasy title from Square Enix seems plausible given their past appearance at the Direct, their existing PlayStation partnerships make this less likely.
Other strong contenders include Capcom's Resident Evil, Sega's Persona, and a potential Ninja Gaiden revival from Team Ninja. A new Resident Evil entry has been rumored for some time, while Persona 6 is anticipated for 2025 and Xbox's prior collaboration with Sega on Metaphor: ReFantazio adds intrigue. A Ninja Gaiden return wouldn't be unexpected, given the franchise's history with Xbox.
Ultimately, all are just speculations. Tune in to the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23rd for the official reveal.
