Jason Momoa preparing for his return to the Dune universe with a dramatic beard shave

Jason Momoa is making his highly anticipated return to the Dune franchise - though not before undergoing a dramatic transformation. The actor shared footage of his beard-shaving ritual ahead of filming Dune: Part Three, showcasing his dedication to director Denis Villeneuve's vision.

"Only for you, Denis," Momoa declared mid-shave, paying tribute to Villeneuve who will continue directing the franchise's third chapter. The normally bearded star admitted discomfort with his clean-shaven look - his first in six years - exclaiming "Goddamnit! I hate it!" in the viral clip.

Known worldwide as Aquaman with his signature long locks and full beard, Momoa's sudden grooming change creates a stark contrast. Fans will remember he maintained this clean-cut appearance for Villeneuve's original Dune, where he played beloved warrior Duncan Idaho.

After sitting out Dune: Part Two, Momoa rejoins the cast alongside his son Nakoa Wolf-Momoa, who makes his acting debut as Leto II - the twin child of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).

The proud father recently opened up about his son's initiation into filmmaking: "He's in for a rude awakening," Momoa told Extra. "This is his first real job experience - no parental assistance, just pure merit. That's how it should be."

He continued with paternal admiration: "Every parent wants their child to surpass them, and Nakoa already has. At 16, he's holding his own with Villeneuve - something I couldn't have dreamed of at his age when I was just starting on Baywatch."

Dune: Part Three hits theaters December 18, 2026. Before returning to Arrakis, Momoa will appear as the antihero Lobo in DC's Supergirl movie next year.
