Lionsgate's Monopoly Movie to Get Screenplay From Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Writers

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the successful Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay for Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie. This announcement confirms their involvement in adapting Hasbro's iconic board game for the big screen. Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment will produce the film.

Daley and Goldstein's recent credits also include the original film Mayday, as well as their contributions to The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their experience in blending humor and adventure seems a fitting choice for a Monopoly adaptation.

The Monopoly movie has a long and somewhat convoluted history in development. Early reports dating back to 2007 mentioned Ridley Scott's interest in directing, followed by various scriptwriting attempts over the years. Previous iterations involved writers like Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, and later Andrew Niccol. Even Kevin Hart and Tim Story were reportedly attached at one point.

However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro appears to have revitalized the project, leading to the current team's involvement. This new iteration of the Monopoly film promises a fresh approach, hopefully bringing the game's world to life on the silver screen.
